Paul Hirst

Paul Hirsts' atmospheric urban landscapes are full of tone and colour. They allude to a time and place where memory and emotion reside.  The oil paintings and prints are food for the soul and speak of places you have been but don't quite remember.  The beautiful abstracted forms become clearer when we  look again. They are in themselves whole and complete having lost the shackles of the real and become their own narrative.
His prints and paintings of Birmingham invite you on a journey into a city where countless exposure, decay and regeneration evidence the passing of time and the moment.
Hirst often travels and camps within the landscape.  He is inspired by the peace and tranquillity found on your own and away from it all.  His work plays with ideas of traditional representational landscape painting and translates it into an abstract 'Turneresque' contemporary form of landscape including urban landscapes.
